Living soils for tomorrow's world · Choosing to act where everything begins
Soils, biodiversity and future generations
The UNESCO Chair "Soils, biodiversity and future generations" was born from a strong conviction: soils must be recognised and protected as a global commons, at the heart of responses to ecological, climate and social crises.
« Protecting soils is a societal choice and a responsibility toward future generations. »
-
Collectively build and deploy observation and decision-support tools to protect soils
-
Train younger generations through innovative systemic approaches
-
Engage citizens and stakeholders through participatory workshops
-
Strengthen an international network through the collaborative platform ILIASS
A Worldwide Network for Sustainability
ILIASS connects researchers, educators, and institutions across the globe, fostering international collaboration to address the most pressing sustainability challenges.
A Lasallian Response to Sustainable Development Challenges
Through collaborative and applied research conducted by the global Lasallian network, ILIASS mobilizes researchers, educators, and institutions from over 80 countries to turn knowledge into concrete action for a sustainable future.
The three pillars of ILIASSObjectives of ILIASS
The overall goal of ILIASS is to make known, structure, promote, and highlight the research work carried out within the global Lasallian network around sustainability challenges — to collectively build a more just and sustainable world.
To identify the research work
of the Lasallian network: to list as thoroughly as possible what is being done in the network, the actions in progress, and the scientific productions.
To structure, organize & classify
these Lasallian works and the teams around central themes, and then to connect the teams concerned, on a thematic and/or geographical basis.
Disseminate, valorize & promote
The results and projects of the Lasallian network: making research accessible and visible to the whole community.
Connect & federate actors
Create synergies between Lasallian teachers, researchers, institutions and international partners.
Train & raise awareness
Offer training, workshops and teaching resources aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Transform campuses into action
Support Lasallian institutions in their transition toward exemplary and sustainable campuses.
Our Foundation
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Based on the fundamental Lasallian value of "Fighting Social Injustice", the foundations of ILIASS are the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Our research and teaching activities are aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on creating significant impact through applied sciences and collaborative initiatives across the global Lasallian network.
The Three Pillars of ILIASS
ILIASS, as a community network of researchers and educators from around the world, aims to become a structuring element of Lasallian universities, organized around three complementary and interdependent pillars.
Sustainable Campuses
The "learning by doing" approach — transforming our campuses into living labs for sustainability.

Education & Training
Support Lasallian teachers, researchers and students throughout their journey toward sustainability.

Research
Lead and valorize applied research projects with high impact, shared by the international Lasallian community.
Learn moreThese pillars share a common ambition and vision: applied sciences with and for humanity. First, there is an ethical requirement in the choice of our research axes, placing human development at the centre. Second, we consider research activities as rooted in their local ecosystems and campuses.
